During one long summer, 15-year-old Haven must deal with a lot of changes. Not only have her parents divorced, but now her father is planning his wedding to Lorna Queen, the "Weather Pet" at the local TV station. Haven's "perfect" older sister Ashely is also planning a wedding, to a man Haven considers a drip. When one of Ashley's former boyfriends, the handsome Sumner Lee, returns, Haven sees him as a connection to happier times in her life.

"Displaying a flair for evocative names and well-timed plot twists, Dessen takes her tall and usually levelheaded teen through two weddings and a succession of disturbing, often comic, surprises, to a climactic explosion." - (Kirkus, 8/1/96)
"The story is insightful and humorous, capturing perfectly a teenage girl's feelings of confusion and doubt....Combining genuine, believable characters with an easy-to-read and hard-to-put-down novel, Dessen writes with the same depth and skill as Katherine Paterson and Richard Peck....Highly recommenced." - Mary Alice Downie (Voya, 12/1/96)
