description
At 15, Charlie is a sweet, naive boy who wears his heart on his sleeve. Through letters to an unknown person, his straightforward, piercing observations about his dysfunctional family, his loving friends, and his own confusing feelings betray the painful, exhilarating process of growing up. Deeply affected by the death of his beloved Aunt Helen and the suicide of his best friend, Charlie often quietly explodes with emotion. He prefers to study life rather than live it, but a burgeoning friendship with Patrick and his stepsister, Sam, take Charlie out of his books and into a world filled with mix-tapes, crushes, long conversations, parties, drugs, and THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. A bittersweet coming-of-age story.

"I adored this book when I first read it, and I still enjoy it to this day. This coming - of - age novel set to a wonderful "soundtrack" pulled me in right away and touched my heart. "this is an extremely easy read. it's a great book for someone who is not especially into reading (i.e. me). it hooked me in right away, and i couldn't put the book down. i hated reading, i'm a slow reader, and i read the whole thing in a day. chbosky definitely creates a character that a young adolescent can relate to."

"This book is so easy to relate to! The first time I read it I was in 10th grade... which made it that much better. I recently read it again and enjoyed it just as much. It has been 8 years, this book is easily a classic!"
