Pushing 40, Siddalee Walker looks back on her Southern childhood: her alcoholic and abusive mother, self-pitying father, and wacked-out siblings. In her first novel, Wells manages to make comedy out of some stock situations.

"Rebecca Wells' long-awaited first novel is a brilliant piece of work....a structural tour de force...a classic Southern tale of dysfunctional and marginal madness. The author's gift for giving life to so many voices leaves the reader profoundly moved." - (Seattle Weekly)

"if I didn't have a fascination with louisiana and so much in common with siddalee, I don't know if I would like this book as much. I lovea good read that's fast, this wasn't for me, but still I enjoyed it."
