Ayn Rand's bestseller tells the story of a staunchly individualist architect (based on Frank Lloyd Wright) who combats the collectivist (i.e., mediocre) impulses of his fellow Americans. The book is both a compulsively readable, steamy novel and an articulation of Rand's views.

"As for Ayn Rand's 'The Fountainhead', seven hundred and fifty-four pages of pure beef, it could stop a tank. From what I gather, Ayn Rand could stop a tank." - Eric Hoffer (New Yorker, 6/26 & 7/3/95)
"When 'The Fountainhead' was published, almost every critic that reviewed it missed a point--that the welfare of society must always be subordinate to individual's self-interest. Rather than dealing with this theme of ego, most of the reviewers treated it as a Big Book, and treated it badly." - Kathryn Pulver (New York Times Book Review, 5/5/68)

"the book is really long (like 750 pages filled with 8 font words), and sometimes the material can get very redundant. I swear Ayn Rand has a fetish for describing rocks in complete detail, and taking up pages after pages of pointless details. But dont get me wrong the story its self is actually a good one, and Frank Lloyd Wrigh happens to be my favorite architect of all time! "
