The boy dragon rider, Eragon, and his constant companion, the dragon Saphira, are torn by many loyalties, with the weight of the world on their shoulders. They must find a way to save Roran's beloved from the evil Ra'zac, and also help the Varden, the elves, and the dwarves in the gristly battle against King Galbatorix. Seemingly overwhelmed by their gargantuan tasks, Eragon and Saphira are forced to find a way to save the world, or all is lost. Both lauded and criticized as derivative of classic works by J.R.R. Tolkien, Ursula K. LeGuin, and J.K. Rowling, Paolini's work is nevertheless phenomenally successful. BRISINGR sold over half a million copies on its first day out, and will be followed by a fourth, hotly awaited book. The first books in the series are ERAGON, written when Paolini was just 15, and ELDEST.
