Ayn Rand
alton439 says:
Another of my favorite books, just plain good reading. One I would take with me to a desert island to read over and over.
5
Sin in the Second Cityall users rating Sin in the Second City
Karen Abbott
alton439 says:
The absolute best History book I ever read, about sin (prostitution) in Chicago around the year 1900. This is a history, not a book about sex, which is only coyly mentioned. It is a story about Chicago and the Everleigh sisters who had the biggest most elaborately decorated "resort" in the town at that time. Speaks the Nightbird Speaks the Nightbird
Robert R. McCammon
alton439 says:
Robert McCammon always tells a great story no matter what year he uses, from the future in "Swan Song" to this set of two books about the Witch Burning era of 1600 or so. I have never read a Robert McCammon book that I would not read and enjoy AGAIN!
8
Gone South Gone South
Robert R. McCammon
alton439 says:
I have read this book, and thoroughly enjoyed it, three times. 'Nuff said?
9
Bethany's Sin Bethany's Sin
Robert R. McCammon
alton439 says:
Another great tale from Robert McCammon, this time focusing on a small town named "Bethany." Unforgettable.

They Thirstall users rating They Thirst
Robert R. McCammon
alton439 says:
Sort of a horror book, but it's hard to call it that when you know it is written by a master of the art. Robert McCammon is the best author I have ever read. All books are different as though they had been written by different authors. Great Reads ALL!
11
The Queen of Bedlam The Queen of Bedlam
Robert R. McCammon
alton439 says:
This one is new to me. I did not know it existed, and will be adding it to my "Want List." I KNOW it will be good because of who wrote it. It is possible that I have just forgotten the title and have read the book but in that case I will just read it and enjoy it again. At age 70, my memory is not as good as it used to be, but that just allows me to enjoy things again.
12
Farnham's Freeholdall users rating Farnham's Freehold
Robert A. Heinlein
alton439 says:
This was the first book I ever read by Robert Heinlein and it led me to many Science Fiction books over 60 years of reading. Piers Anthony is another of my favorite authors, but is usually called Fantasy, I think, rather than Science Fiction
