about this list:
Even though these are some of my most favorite books, I continue to discover ones that may one day replace these. My love of good stories is only complicated by my lack of time. Email me some of your favorites or let me know what you think of some of these books at lynnddaniel@gmail.com. I love corresponding with other readers--Happy Reading!

1
Perfect Matchall users rating Perfect Match
Jodi Picoult
beadbabe4 says:
The worst situations tend to bring out the best in people, and in Jodi Picoult's novels her characters are faced with moral problems with no easy solution. To me this is one of her best because both sides of a delicate sitation are explored to the fullest.
2
Talk Before Sleepall users rating Talk Before Sleep
Elizabeth Berg
beadbabe4 says:
One of the most loving books about women's friendships I have ever read. The women in this very short book are united by their love of one woman, and it is this tie that sustains them through her illness. Well worth an afternoon read.
3
Saint Maybeall users rating Saint Maybe
Anne Tyler
beadbabe4 says:
I was moved by the struggle the main character undergoes after a casual word to his brother changes his entire life and presents him with an opportunity for redemption.
4
Jane Eyreall users rating Jane Eyre
Charlotte Bronte
beadbabe4 says:
From the first reading I was enchanted by Jane. She's poor and plain and has to undergo such abuse when she's young but becomes the first real feminist I ever encountered. Her story made me want to be a governess so I could fall in love with a man like Mr. Rochester.
5
Practical Magicall users rating Practical Magic
Alice Hoffman
beadbabe4 says:
Best book I've ever read about the power of sisterhood. I love the unity of the three sets of sisters in the book--three generations of witches.
6
The Bonesetter's Daughterall users rating The Bonesetter's Daughter
Amy Tan
beadbabe4 says:
The first time I read this I suddenly realized that parents have a whole life before children appear, and that they were real people. Naiive I know, but still this book reminds me that just because my parents continue to age they are still these remarkable people with a world of experiences I know nothing about. I won't wait for Alzheimer's to take their minds, I will find out their stories now.
7
The Time Traveler's Wifeall users rating The Time Traveler's Wife
Audrey Niffenegger
beadbabe4 says:
I found this a number of years ago and fell in love with the characters and the frank way Ms. Niffenegger described Claire's life. Although they have made this into a movie I can't say I want to see it--I have my own movie in my head. I can't wait to read her next book!
8
Living a Life That Mattersall users rating Living a Life That Matters
Harold S. Kushner
beadbabe4 says:
For so long I looked for a way to impact this world and make a better place for those I loved. This book helped me to look towards God to find the way to do that.
9
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkabanall users rating Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
J. K. Rowling
beadbabe4 says:
Love the entire series, but in this book Harry and Hermione have to save his uncle and a very special hippogriff. It is the turning point in the story because Harry realizes he isn't alone.
10
Stormy Weatherall users rating Stormy Weather
Carl Hiaasen
beadbabe4 says:
This author has the most delightfully wicked sense of adventure! His books are laugh-out-loud funny but he writes them with his tongue firmly in his cheek. I thought the situation with the monkeys was hysterical. Good hurricane season read!
11
How Good Do We Have to Be? How Good Do We Have to Be?
Harold S. Kushner
beadbabe4 says:
Explains fully the concept of "grace" and how none of us can fully "deserve" the kingdom. Using the Adam and Eve story from the bible, Kushner's book decries the notion that being good is good enough and reminds the reader that grace is a gift, not a right.
