I don't understand why everytime I try to accept a swap or initiate a swap it says item no longer available. When I go to the persons available items it shows the item still listed. I've emailed them and received no answers. Sort of frustrating they didn't hesitate to confirm my debit card but won't allow any swapping.

There could be a number of reasons that the item is not available:
it's already been snapped up (happened to me a number of times)
the other trader is over their trade limit
the other trader's account is suspended or paused

And remember, a lot of the trades are 3 ways; in that case, there are three people who need to be available for the trade.

It usually works best when you let ST find the trades for you rather than search them out.

And you just need to be patient with the site. It's not perfect, but it works.

Hope you get something you want soon.

If you receive the message trying to initiate a trade it could be for a number of reasons, but if you have received a trade offer and got that message while trying to accept the trade then something is wrong and you definitely will have to contact ST tech support and have them look into it. One thing that can cause the problem you are experiencing is if there is a second account at the same address, but if you are new to SwapTree this wouldn't be an issue for you.

UPDATE

UPDATE-

Thanks for the info. I have this account set up to swap books but have never used it or set up my debit card. Both accounts have the same address so I think your on to something. I'm going to delete my sons account and try to work on this one and see if it works. Thanks! (ps- never received return emails from c.s)

I don't believe it's sufficient to just delete a second account, even if it has never been involved in a trade. You will have to get in touch with ST tech support and they can do what's necessary from their end to allow you to trade with one of the accounts. Per the Conditions of Use, the limit is one account per trader, with a max of two per household, pending approval. Generally the second account at an address is permitted once the first account has been running for a while and without problems. You and your son would actually have more trade opportunities by combining your trading lists, something to consider later on if you are still thinking about having separate accounts...
