Known as the Jazz Age, THE ROARING TWENTIES was an exciting time in American (and world) history. America and its allies had gone through World War I and come out victorious, the Depression was years away, and Prohibition was but a mere inconvenience for those in the know. The popular music of the day reflected this upbeat, carefree, and confident attitude: "Gimme A Little Kiss, Will Ya, Huh," and "I'm Sitting On Top of the World" are but two vivid examples. Also, blues and the then-new phenomenon known as jazz were making their presence felt in the songs of Paul Whiteman (whose band featured many future stars), Ruth Etting, and Ethel Waters. ALWAYS is a sonic portal to another decade and another America.
