Though Patti Labelle will perhaps be best remembered for her sultry 1970s funk classics like "Lady Marmalade," the powerhouse R&B singer became increasingly gospel-oriented as her career progressed. THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO PATTI LABELLE is a solid 11-track anthology of some of her finest gospel recordings, including versions of such classics as the Soul Seekers' "God Ain't Through" and original tunes like "You Are My Friend." THE GOSPEL makes it clear that, regardless of the subject matter, Labelle's voice deserves her listeners' praise.
